Happy Thanksgiving, everybody!
The month of October has a few cycling related public consultations, as well as those for the 2026 budget. Supporters of the Danforth-Kingston 4 All campaign would be pleased with the Phase 2 consultations for Kingston Road (spurred in part by last month's ride), while Sloane Avenue and Keele Street will also be looked at. Let’s dive in!

Current conditions on Kingston Road |
Kingston Road
Two public consultations will be held for Kingston Road (which saw Danforth and parts of Birchmount get deferred due to Bill 212). A virtual one will take place on Tuesday, October 21 (7:00 to 8:30 PM) followed by a public drop-in on Monday, October 27 (6:00 to 8:30 PM) at R.H. King Academy (3800 St. Clair Avenue East). You can also complete the online survey by Monday, November 3. Work will start next year pending council approval with the St. Clair to Markham stretch getting repaved in 2027.
The new proposal covers from Cliffside to Scarborough Golf Club and maintains three traffic lanes per direction which will be narrowed to 3.3 metres for the curb lanes (to allow for off-peak parking in some parts) and 3.0 metres for the other travel lanes. The RapidTO bus lanes will be kept east of Eglinton and the speed limit reduced to 50 km/h. The bike lane widths vary with some narrower parts having only 1.5 metre painted bike lanes, while a few Zicla platforms will be incorporated. Maybe over the longer term, the concrete island widths can be narrowed to make the bike lanes wider?
An earlier proposal called for two stretches of bi-directional cycle track to provide connectivity with the Waterfront Trail, but would have removed one eastbound traffic lane. Instead, left turn boxes will be provided at Chine Drive, Brimley Road, and Ravine Drive. However, nothing was proposed for Faircroft Boulevard which needs at least a pedestrian crossover. Last, but not least, I am concerned that the Danforth-Kingston interchange won’t be addressed despite it being dangerous for those who bike. I would encourage that city staff work on some interim solutions to make navigating that interchange safer until conditions allow to build Danforth from Victoria Park to Kingston Road.
Sloane Avenue
The existing conditions on Sloane Avenue from Eglinton to Victoria Park Avenues consist of two 5.4 metre travel lanes which will be narrowed to 3.3 metres to accommodate on-road cycle tracks with poured-in-place curbs along most of the route and the removal of all unsigned parking. In front of Sloane Avenue Public School, the southbound lane will be kept at 5.4 metres wide to allow for pick ups and drop offs, while the cycle track will be raised. The cycle tracks will also be raised for one block from Eccleston to Eglinton, while the intersection will get some improvements including left turn boxes and a protected corner island. Why not make this a full-on protected intersection?
The public drop-in for Sloan will take place on Monday, October 20 (6:30 to 8:30 PM) at Sloan Avenue Public School (110 Sloane Avenue) while the survey will be open until Sunday, November 2. It would have been nice to have the bike lanes extended south on Bermondsey to connect with the East Don Trail, but that would require the removal of traffic lanes while a proposed trail to connect the East Don Trail and The Meadoway will make this almost unnecessary.
Keele Street
With Keele Street expected to be repaved in 2027, the City of Toronto is looking to add a multi-use path from Finch to Steeles Avenues. The multi-use path would be adjacent to the sidewalk from Finch to The Pond Road, while it would replace the sidewalk from The Pond to Steeles. The traffic lanes will be narrowed while there will be opportunities to improve intersections, though no specifics were provided.
You can share your comments using this interactive map until Monday, October 20.
2026 Budget
Last, but not least, there are the fall consultations for the 2026 budget. Four in-person and two virtual meetings will be held, while you can submit your comments until Friday, October 31.
- Old Toronto & East York – Tuesday, October 14 (7 – 9 PM) at St. Lawrence Market North (92 Front St. E.)
- Etobicoke – Saturday, October 18 (12 – 2 PM) at Etobicoke Olympium (590 Rathburn Rd.)
- North York – Wednesday, October 22 (7 – 9 PM) at North York Memorial Hall (5110 Yonge St.)
- Scarborough – Thursday, October 23 (7 – 9 PM) at Scarborough Civic Centre (150 Borough Dr.)
- Virtual #1 – Monday, October 27 (12 – 2 PM)
- Virtual #2 – Wednesday, October 29 (7 – 9 PM)
One priority I have for this budget is to call on the City of Toronto to provide stable and permanent funding for open streets given past OpenStreetsTO events relied on private donors which can be unsustainable. If you haven’t already, please sign and share the petition in support of open streets. There are lots of other things to call for in the budget, but it’s important to get involved either way.
