More October 2025 Cycling Consultations

Earlier this month, I reported on public consultations for three cycling projects along Kingston Road, Sloane Avenue, and Keele Street; as well as those for Toronto’s 2026 budget. However, three more consultations have been announced since then which prompted a follow up post. These include Trethewey Drive, Rathburn Road, and Weston Road.

Trethewey Drive

The Phase 1 consultation for the Trethewey Complete Street took place in June 2024 which called for a complete street from Jane Street to Eglinton Avenue. However, the routing has since been changed to include a bi-directional cycle track from Jane Street to Clearview Heights (east of Black Creek Drive) with sharrows proposed along Clearview Heights and Municipal Drive to complete the connection to Eglinton Avenue via the Coronation Park trail. An optional contraflow bike lane is also proposed along Clearview Heights from Trethewey Drive to Freeman Road, while a future bi-directional cycle track could be implemented on the north side of Denison Road as part of Phase 2 of the Weston Cycling Connections. The consultation for that phase is yet to be determined. I was advised by a local advocate that the connection through Coronation Park is unsafe for non-cycling reasons.

The Phase 2 consultation will take place on Wednesday, October 29 (7 – 9 PM) at Charles E. Webster Public School (1900 Keele Street) while you have until Sunday, November 9 to complete the survey.

Rathburn Road

To follow up on a recently installed multi-use trail on Rathburn Road next to Centennial Park, the City of Toronto is proposing a bi-directional cycle track on the south side from Melbert Road to The West Mall with a new traffic signal proposed at Melbert Road. The aim of this project is to eventually extend the cycle tracks across Highway 427 to the existing Rathburn bike lanes which start at The East Mall, though that will require provincial approval and a separate consultation process.

The public drop-in event will happen on Thursday, October 30 (6:30 – 8:30 PM) at Etobicoke Olympium (590 Rathburn Road) with feedback due by Sunday, November 9.

Weston Road

In keeping with the bi-directional theme, a short bi-directional cycle track is proposed on the west side of Weston Road from Lanyard Road to Finch Avenue with road resurfacing and other safety improvements proposed from Finch to Steeles Avenues. While it may not sound much from a cycling perspective, this will fill a significant gap between the Humber River Trail system and the cycle tracks along the Finch West LRT. A segment that would also form part of the Loop Trail.

For the Finch to Steeles stretch, some hardened centrelines and truck aprons will be added at selected intersections to slow left and right turns, while a slip lane at Fenmar Drive will be removed to further improve safety. Some other streetscaping improvements could end up being done with support from the Emery Village BIA. Comments should be sent to Rachel.Yanchyshyn@toronto.ca by Friday, October 31.
