TCBC Clears the Bloor Bike Lane!

Almost three weeks after the big snowstorm, there were still some parts of the Bloor bike lane that were blocked by snow including the eastbound lane in Koreatown. Since I had to do some errands in The Annex and Chinatown this morning, I helped Albert Koehl and some other TCBC volunteers with the bike lane clearing in Koreatown.

Originally, the plan was to clear Yonge Street from Rosedale station at Crescent Street and work our way north. However, I noticed yesterday when walking Mozzie that the Midtown Yonge bikeway was already cleared from Davenport to north of Crescent Street and had to alert Albert.

While the Bloor bike lanes were mostly passable from Sherbourne to Bathurst, there was one small stretch between Huron Street and Madison Avenue which was pretty dicey.

I arrived at Bloor and Markham where Albert, Matti, Peter, and Joey were already hard at work.

There was a pretty large mound of snow at Markham Street which was closed off for the Mirvish Village redevelopment. Here’s Joey and David tackling that mound.

There’s Peter while Albert and a few others continued working west.

Mark is tacking another large mound by Palmerston. I find those smaller metal shovels are a lot more effective when breaking away frozen sections.

An e-scooter rider makes his way into the newly cleared stretch from Palmerston to Markham.

A passer by took a group photo of us just east of Euclid.

Albert took this photo showing I wasn’t spending my entire time taking photos. 😉

Finally got a clear path to Euclid. I found the Palmerston to Euclid part was a lot easier to clear.

A woman on a bike share rode by and thanked us for our work.

After Euclid, I went into Ave Maria to grab a beef and potato empanada and a café con leche.

Albert and a few other volunteers continued making their way to Manning. I had to leave to do some errands.

Here’s Bloor and Palmerston after our handy work.

On the way to Chinatown, I noticed the College Street cycle tracks were well cleared, while Palmerston wasn’t bad either.

Adelaide was also well cleared throughout.

On Sherbourne heading home, I noticed the northbound cycle track was mostly passable, though there were one or two tricky parts. The southbound cycle track could use some more work.

Thanks Albert and TCBC for organizing this morning’s bike lane clearing! Some other volunteers did another round of bike lane clearing in Bloor West Village which Jun covered here. If you’re curious about the east end, I did a separate write up on Wednesday.
